You can think of the Rock Ultra FS as a suped up G.I. I’ve seen some 1911s have rattling grip safeties and luckily this doesn’t seem like one of them. The slide is tight to the rails and there aren’t any rattles to speak of. There are no noticeable imperfections in the finish of this firearm as it seems to have a very uniform finish. Parkerized finishes are much more resistant to corrosion as well as general wear and tear. It’s a very utilitarian finish that maybe doesn’t look as pretty as a blued finish, however the trade off is worth it. The Rock Ultra FS has a parkerized finish that is matte. The G10 grips come standard on this model as well. Additionally it has a 5” button rifled barrel, red fiber-optic front sight, adjustable rear sight, and an adjustable trigger. The Rock Ultra FS that they sent us came with two 10 round magazines that appear to be from Mec-Gar.

They’re either lacking in features or are unreliable - sometimes both. Finding reliable 1911s that don’t break the bank can be a bit of a tall mountain to climb. For many, the 1911 is still their go to and we can’t fault them for that. They’re ergonomic, soft shooting, incredibly accurate, and if treated right they are reliable. Why is that? Well, the 1911 does a lot of things right despite its age. Yet here we are in 2020 looking over a 1911. It’s large, heavy, and doesn’t hold as many rounds as its counterparts. You’d think we would have moved on by now, especially with all the affordable striker fired guns on the market. A classic with a design that goes back over 100 years.
